Welcome, Welcome to another interactive session on STUDENT’S TALK. This week, I have a wonderful, special student all the way from ATHOLTON HIGH SCHOOL MARYLAND, USA, She is in junior level and she will be expressing her thoughts on how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected her and her school too. Join me as we talk with the beautiful, OREOLUWA OLARINDE.
1. Everybody wants to know you, can you please tell us about yourself?
ANS: Hello everyone! my name is OréOluwa Olarinde. I am a dancer, a member of drill team in JROTC. I a am also a member of BSU and Sister2Sister club at my school, and I play volleyball. I enjoy spending time with family & friends!
2.What is the name of your school and the grade you are in?
ANS: I am a rising junior at Atholton High School
3. What was your reactions when government had to close down schools because of covid-19?
ANS: When the government canceled school, I wasn’t really surprised but I was very excited. I thought of it at the surface level as in “ yay,I don’t have to go to school” and not thinking of the actual reason and what’s can do to this country. In my opinion, I feel like I handled it quite well
4. Staying home for this long, what will you say has changed for you?
ANS: Staying at home for this long, has forced me to deal with myself and goals that I’ve had. I cannot go anywhere therefore I was forced to do a lot of self reflecting. I was able to connect more with God, and develop a stronger relationship with Him
5. You are doing online schooling at home, do you prefer it or prefer going to school?
ANS: Everyone that knows me, know that I’m not really fond of going to school physically. I’ve always preferred a blended curriculum. When it was announced that my county was moving school to online, I was . I like the fact that the format of online schooling is dependent on me. I can pace myself as I want, whilst going to school I’m going at the pace of my teacher and those around me
6. A lot of your mates are really lacking behind due to covid-19, what will be your advise to them?
ANS: Everyone’s situation right now is different, and it took awhile to adjust to covid-19. But, I find it essential to take time to yourself, get off social media for some time. there is a lot going on right now, and its important that we take care of our mental health. always remember to smile, and breathe 🙂
7. Will you say that covid-19 is actually in existence?
ANS: Yes, I would say covid-19 is still in existent. I find it quite insensitive to say it isn’t in existent because many family’s have experienced a loss of a family member(s) or a family member(s) that have covid-19.
8. It is not easy to be home for this long, if schools were to open today, will there be any setbacks for you?
ANS: No, I wouldn’t have any setbacks.
9. What do you miss the most out there and if giving a chance to go out, what will that be?
ANS: Honestly, I love staying home. But if I had a chance to go out, I would probably use it to hang out with my family &friends.
10. What will you as a student advise the government to do concerning this covid-19 situation?
ANS: I think its important that government ask the people if they are comfortable in moving school back to normal or if we want to adjust to the new “normal”. Its very essential that the government get feedback from us. In as much as they may want to open school because of several reasons, its better to be safe than sorry.
Wow, this has been wonderful. Thank you so much Ore for doing this interview with me. God bless you and may you grow and be successful in the future.
Hope everyone had a good time reading this interview and learnt from it also. Please join me next time, next week to talk with another student. Until then, please keep safe, love God and be happy. Love you all.
