IT’S MY CHOICE

Tribalism is now and has always been the order of the day. Most of our parents tend to choose a husband or wife for their kids all in the name of the same tribe. Igbo has to marry from Igbo, Hausa has to marry from Hausa, Yoruba from Yoruba and on and on. Not only about the same tribe but also the same class. An average family can’t marry from the most richest family in the society, it is a big slap on their face.

Love is something that comes naturally. Two people meet eachother and falls in-love. They decide to take it to the next level which of course is marriage. Then trouble comes in all because of tribe, class and if possible Faith. Then you see how both families fight and argue and make sure that such marriage doesn’t hold. They begin to compare and grade each family. Questions such as who are they in the society, Are they rich? Is he or she from the richest family in the country? How comfortable are they? Different questions pop up all because of differences in so many factors leading to marriage.

I wonder why that has to be so? Why can’t two people in-love just get married without minding their culture, same church, class(poor or rich)? Parents who force their kids into marriages that they do not approve of are doing harm to the hearts and future of the kids. These kids has a right to make their own choice of who to spend their whole life with forever. Class, status in the society is nothing compared to the happiness, joy, peace of mind, true love, achievements, fulfillment and more in the marriage they are about to enter into. Some mothers, so sorry to say put pressure all in the name of what people will say if their family is involved with a low income salary person. Everyone who is rich today, started from somewhere and grew and became who they are now. Families who make decisions for their kids in marriages of today have actually regretted it. Trust me, no one wants to be poor, we all want the good life, but why force it? Do our parents even consider our happiness? Introducing your kids to meet someone is not a bad idea but is it the right decision? Marriage is a long time commitment, its not a child’s play, it is between two people and if it is not bound to be, don’t force it? Parents please, listen to your kids, direct them in the right way. Do not say it because of the big gain you will get if your kids and the other rich family come together, it will or may not workout right at all. Divorces increase day by day because of wrong choices in marriages set up by their parents. The average people can make it better, they can be the one to take you and the entire family to the highest level in the world. Looking down on your kid’s decisions in marriage is not the best at all. Instead, follow up, ask questions, encourage them, understand how they feel about each other and why they want to be together, its better this way than driving them far, far away from you. What will be, will definitely be.

As usual, we all know what to do, even if our parents are not in support of it or they are, God in Heaven is  the ultimate match maker when it comes to marriages. Youths, no matter who you fall in love with, make sure God’s hand is involved. We shouldn’t make the wrong decision all in the name of class, same church, money and other factor. Youths fight for the one who you truly love and trust me, you will be making the biggest and greatest decision of your life. Watch and be careful before your enter into a marriage. Your parents won’t live with you in that marriage. God bless us and guide us in this path of marriage, AMEN.
