STUDENT’S TALK- BADMUS ABDULJELIL

Welcome everyone to another time on STUDENT’S TALK. This week a student is a graduate but COVID-19 has made his graduation to be kept on hold. He is going to be talking to us about how it feels and what the government needs to do quickly to resolve the issue. So lets talk today with BADMUS ABDULJELIL….

1. Can you please introduce yourself to everyone please?

ANS: My name is Badmus Abduljelil. I am currently a student of the prestigious Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Nigeria,  studying Physics.

2. Schools has been shut down due to covid-19, how has it affected you personally?

ANS: As a person, it has really affected a lot, like a lot of plans has gone down the drain but it’s all for our own personal safety. Well I feel indifferent because as we know it, the Pandemic is real though some people in my part of the country still thinks it is all a ruse by the government to syphon funds.

3. Government seems to say that school wont be opened until maybe next year, how do you feel about that?

ANS: But as regards school resumption, I am in full support of the government because imagine a scenario whereby we have an average of 1000 students in a lecture hall and one person has the virus. Imagine the disaster the person can cause. So safety and life first. It’s when we are alive, that’s when our education would be of any benefit.

4. You being at home all these months, is there any new thing you have learnt or examine about yourself?

ANS: As regards me staying at home. Remember when I said I am a student well that’s not totally true. I have already finished my program all that’s left is for the final result to be out…. Then boom, ASUU(Academic staff union of universities) started their usual strike and God willing, the issue of COVID-19 also started. So you can say I am an half student half graduate.(laughs). So what have I been doing… Well, I have been picking up new skills but there have been some constraints. Overall it has been quite fruitful.

5. If you were given a chance to say something to the president, what will that be?

ANS: If I have the chance to speak with the President, honestly speaking, I doubt I would tell him anything (chuckles). Even if I would, It would be for him to improve on the educational sector and key areas of the economy.

6. If covid-19 is to end now and school reopens, what will you like to do?

ANS: Well once the Government declares the country COVID-19 free, believe me I am not leaving my house for 2 months. I need to be totally sure that it’s safe out there. (Laughs). Yes, you can say am scared but it’s also called precaution. After two months of observing then within that time hopefully ASUU would have also suspended the strike.

Then I can stroll into the university, do my clearance and prepare for the  youth service. I spoke with some of my friends during the lock down and some can’t even remember their matriculation number.

7. Some students are not active anymore with the covid-19 situation, its really hard, what will be your advise to them?

ANS: As regards students not being active, it is expected considering the kind of educational sector we run in our country. But nevertheless it’s up to the student to be responsible for themselves. You can’t use the Pandemic as excuse. There are a lot of people that saw this as an opportunity to diversify their knowledge, took courses online and updated their skill sets. While some are just where they left off before the Pandemic. My little advice is everyone is responsible for himself. Be responsible for yourself.

NANCY: A very big  thank you, ABDULJELLI for letting me interview you. I do appreciate it. God bless you and may success be yours in all you wish to do.

ABDULJELLI: Thank you very much for having me. Hope to join you next time.

NANCY: Alright people, this is me signing out. I hope you all enjoyed this interview. Please do join me again next time, next week to talk with another student. Still then, please do everything you can to keep safe. God bless you……..
