I welcome everyone to LIVING IN NIGERIA, a part of WORDS FROM NANCY’S BLOG, where we discuss about the living condition of people(NIGERIANS) who living in Nigeria. Today, we have a very noble man who will be discussing with us. Everyone, let’s welcome, our guest, MIKE AKINTAYO.
1. Could you please tell us more about yourself ?
ANS: I’m Mike Akintayo popularly known as King Mikkee. I’m a Soil Scientist by profession but currently a financial analyst with Accion Mfb. I’m also a public affairs analyst.
2. How do you seen the living situation in NigeriaThe living Situation in Nigeria has gradually been frustrating from the issue of insecurity, kidnappings, ritual killings etc to the current situation of cash scarcity due to the newly introduced Naira notes. And as a matter of fact alot of Nigerian youths have relocated abroad for brighter future and some are still planning to relocate, because the Japa trend have been on a very high side especially to United Kingdom. I pray the Lord restore Nigeria back as the true giant of Africa.
3. What’s your view concerning the presidential election that was done some weeks ago?
ANS: Let me first of all congratulate the President Elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Well the recently conducted Presidential election in Nigeria was peaceful and to some extent free and fair but I must as well state categorically that INEC did not follow strictly the already laid down electoral rules and guidelines, INEC deviated. For instance it was stated that all election results must be transmitted at the polling units. All these were not observed in all the polling units.
4. What was it like for you to be among those who conducted the election exercise?
ANS: I feel good to be among the INEC adhoc staffs that participated in the election. I made sure the election was peaceful, following the guidelines. The party agents on ground can attest to the fact that, there was equity and transparency in every of our activities. From the verification and authentication of voters PVC with the BVAS to the issuance of ballots papers.
5. The new elected president now, do you feel he will make Nigeria a better country?
ANS: Well, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu would be a good president, when we talk of Experience and capacity, I think he has what it takes to rule Nigeria. Asiwaju has this gift of discovering strategists that have great ideas to work with, he has vision and also the ability to unite people irrespective of their tribes or their religions. So there’s no doubt about the president elect. My prayer for him, is that God should grant him sound health and long life to be able to deliver at his full capacity.
6. What are the expectations you desire from the new government?
ANS: My expectations, first of all the government should work on the insecurity in the country. Let the perpetrators and sponsors be brought to book. The government should stabilize the economy, let there be balancing. The inflation rate should be monitored, as we speak the Naira has been devalued greatly. The government should improve and invest in Agriculture so there would be availability of food in circulation. And also, Job creations for the unemployed youths is key. As this will also reduce the crime rates in the country.
7. The crimes and corruption, will it reduce in this new government era?
ANS: I trust God will strengthen the incoming government the needed wisdom to go about insecurity. As per corruption, the corruption is an individual thing. I will advise every citizen to work on him or herself. That’s how corruption can be tackled in Nigeria. It has affected almost all sectors.
8. What will be your advice to people living outside Nigeria if they want to come back home?
ANS: To people in diaspora, no matter the comfort and facilities being enjoyed out there, home is home, there’s no place like home. My advice is for them to gather enough skills out there and return anytime they feel like to invest in Nigeria.
9. 9. What will be your advise for the new government coming in for the next four years?
ANS: My advice to the incoming government is firstly to reunite the nation. Shun nepotism, invite and work with other good hands in other political parties. And lastly this frequent ASUU strike here and there should become a thing of the past. I heard myself during President Elect acceptance speech, he said and I quote 4years will be 4years no more University going on strike. The government must fulfill all her promises.
