The Hurt – A Tale of Betrayal, Fake friendship, and Fake Love

So, Amaka has been in a relationship with this guy for over a year now and trust me, this guy literally wouldn’t let her breathe. Because it’s a long-distance relationship, he always wants to stay on the phone with her, almost all the time. They’ve had their share of back-and-forths, mostly because Amaka can be a bit stubborn and refuses to fall for his constant guilt-tripping. That always gets him mad because her reaction remains calm and unchanged.

Several times, Amaka has wanted to end the relationship, but he always ends up pleading and begging her to stay. One day, after another argument, he went as far as giving her number to someone he claimed was his sister to call and talk to her. The supposed sister kept calling Amaka until she finally picked up. The lady pleaded on his behalf, and that’s how Amaka forgave him — again. Over time, Amaka and this “sister” became cordial; they’d check up on each other and seemed to build a friendly bond.

Fast-forward to when the guy finally came back to town — Amaka was genuinely happy. He was sweet, cuddly, and everything seemed perfect… until one morning when Amaka decided to check his phone while he was asleep.

What she saw broke her.

She went through his chat with the so-called sister and realized — they were not siblings. The messages were filled with “my baby,” “I love you so much,” “Are you at work?” “I miss you,” and other intimate expressions that no brother and sister should be exchanging.

Amaka freaked out and woke him up immediately. When she confronted him, he got defensive and accused her of invading his privacy. He even demanded to check her phone — she handed it over, knowing she had nothing to hide. Of course, he found nothing. Yet, he still blamed her, trying to twist the narrative and make himself the victim.

Amaka stood her ground and demanded an explanation — why did he introduce his other girlfriend to her as his sister? And why was this lady pretending to be so nice and supportive, even helping to settle their fights?

Amaka called the “sister” directly to ask what was really going on, but the lady stuck to the same lie: “He’s my brother.”

It was unbelievable — because the chats clearly showed they were in love. Nothing about their conversation suggested family; everything screamed romantic relationship.

At that point, Amaka decided to walk away.

She later called her friend Uche, who advised her to calm down before making any rash decision. Amaka listened — but shortly after, while on a call with the guy, she heard a female voice in the background. Suspicious, she switched to a video call and told him to turn the camera toward the kitchen. Guess who she saw? The so-called sister.

Unbelievable.

What’s worse? His family knew Amaka. He had introduced her to everyone — yet he was still cheating with another woman who also knew about Amaka and played along in the deceit.

It’s crazy how manipulative some people can be. This guy constantly accused Amaka of cheating while he was the one living a double life, pretending to be the innocent one all along.

Indeed, time is a revealer of truth.

So, here’s the takeaway:
Not everyone in a relationship is genuine. Some people are skilled at pretending. Pray before you commit. Ask God for discernment and for the partner He has truly designed for you.

We all deserve honesty, peace, and love that’s pure.
Let God lead you. Pray hard. Marry right.
May God help us all.
