He saw the man standing before him and, trembling, asked, “Are you ready or not? Time is running out.”
“Don’t stay because of that man and what he promises you. Leave him now: he is too strong. He will hurt you; you will die. God is calling you out now. Do not be afraid.”
“It doesn’t matter. You need to get out now. Time is running out. Why fear? You know that I am your Lord. Because of what I have already given you, get out now.”
“I can’t, not again. Do you want me to die? If I follow you, what will I gain except death? I am not going anywhere with you. You are Lord, but I am trapped here, afraid, and in danger because you did not answer me quickly. I choose to stay.”
“The man standing in your way is blocking your escape. I know you feel held, as if he could stab you if you move. I know you think you can’t come with me, but if you die, will you entrust your soul to me? I couldn’t wait any longer for your blessing; it was taking too much time, and so I met this man. If you are truly Lord, accept me.”
“I, the Lord, am here to save you. Give me your hand before it is too late. You will not die. I promise you. Follow me now.”
“I cannot be forgiven. I have failed you day and night. I am unworthy; I am ashamed. I have caused you pain and, by my sins, nailed you to the cross again and again. I am so sorry. It was a mistake. But I’m certain I cannot leave. The man will kill me; I will die. If I die, will you accept my soul?”
“I accept you. I am here to save you. Give me your hand. Trust me. Do not delay.”
