Growing to know more about God does not take just one day. It is a daily activity that every Christian, whether new or old in the faith, should put effort into in order to know Him more.
As Christians, we should not be weak in our spiritual growth. This is the time to wake up, do what you have to do, and live a holy life so that God’s name will be seen daily in your life.
How to Grow in God
For us to have a daily walk with God, we should do the following:
Don’t Rush Your Prayer
Prayer is talking with God, communicating and listening to what He wants to say to you. A lot of us, the very first thing we do in the morning is pick up our phones just to look, laugh, and comment on things that are irrelevant to our growth with God.
How will God speak to you when your mind is not with Him in the first place? We only want to listen to the gossip flying around the world that has nothing good for us. It will not put food on our table.
Once we realize how much time we spend on our phones, we will see that our time and day have been wasted. As you wake up in the morning, I know some of us use the bathroom first, which is fine, but after that, let’s spend quality time with God.
Don’t Be Afraid
What I mean here is that some of us do not see ourselves as qualified to know or grow in God. While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. He knows us. He knows who you are.
Once you identify your shortcomings before God, then your growth has begun. Sometimes we do not realize that there is no small sin or big sin; sin is sin before God. Recognize your sins.
Paul said that he dies daily to sin (1 Corinthians 15:31). Don’t feel too big to ask God for mercy every day. Go to God in truth and in spirit with a sincere heart, and the Lord God will always forgive you.
Growing in the Lord means deciding to stop sinning. Do away with sin. If it is friends, family members, co-workers, or anybody at all that slows down your growth with God, stay away from them.
Let God Direct Your Life
God Almighty wants us to have a good life. He wants us to live freely, be happy, and be joyful. Do whatever makes you happy, but this does not mean that you should live a lifestyle that does not please the Lord.
The Bible says, “Seek ye first the kingdom of God and every other thing shall be added unto you.” Live your dreams, but allow God to direct you to your purpose.
Many of us fail in life because we do not allow God to lead our life decisions. If you really want to grow with God, let God help you live a purposeful life, and you will not regret it because His plans for you are great and beautiful.
Be Careful What You Follow
In this generation of ours, with so many new things coming up every day, close your eyes to certain things. What we see is not always as it seems. Behind closed doors, many people are fighting different battles.
You do not have to copy your neighbor and end up stealing or doing illegal things just to get what they have. How can you grow in God when your focus is on wasting money on things that do not glorify Him?
Some people become intimidated by those around them. They steal from their spouses, parents, or borrow endlessly until they are disgraced, beaten, arrested, or embarrassed publicly because they are living a false life, a life not worthy of God.
How do you grow in Christ like that?
You are better than that kind of life. God does not want you to conform to this wicked world that Satan has polluted with evil ways. Be careful. Don’t do what is not pleasing to God. You cannot grow in Christ while living like that.
Look up to God alone. Don’t follow the crowd you do not even know. Trust me, you are better off without that kind of lifestyle. Live for God.
Remember That God Loves You
Finally, do not give room for the enemy to deceive you into thinking that God does not love you.
For you to grow in God every day, always remember that God loves you. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.”
You belong to the Lord. Hold tightly to your faith. When the enemy attacks you, fight back. Don’t be weak. Don’t allow the devil make you think you cannot do anything. You can, and you will have victory.
Fight for your salvation. Run away from every appearance of evil. Grow in the Lord.
CONCLUSION
2 Peter 3:18 tells us, “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be glory both now and forever. Amen.”
Every day, die to sin, read your Bible, and pray. Attend a good Bible-believing church that can help you grow in the Lord. Have good Christian friends who will lead you to Heaven and not hell.
Watch what you watch on TV and social media. Be mindful of what you listen to. Discard songs that do not glorify God and sing songs that honor Him.
Pray without ceasing. Spend quality time with God every day.
I pray that I see you in Heaven and that you see me there too. I love you all so much, but God loves you more.
